The super easy skirt

In the celebration of me finishing 1 of my 3500 words essay and the success of interviewing someone for my other 3500 final project, I am going indulge my self in craft world tonight (and forgetting my 5000 words research design that will due on this wednesday).

This time, I would like to blog my ownmade skirt. Because the price of fabric in here is so damn expensive (I compared the price with online stores in the US and UK, the fabric price here is 50-100% much more expensive!), I only bought half metre of this cute moda fabric with leaves pattern.

I used all the fabric to make a skirt. I just joint the long end together, put elastic in the waist, and hem the edge. Voila! A cute mini skirt :)

What makes me happy with this skirt is my hem. People who see this skirt said how neat I sew the hem <3 I have to admit, this is the first time I've ever done the hem this neat.

And that's all folks.

Tsubusa ni Koi bag XD

Blame the eighters in me that when a saw a green fabric with sakura pattern, I didn't think twice to buy it. I thought I would like to make a tote bag from it, but I changed my mind. I ended up with a messenger bag.

Unfortunately, I didn't use the proper weight of fusible interfacing. When I used the bag to uni, the shape became weird. I didn't like it at all. But practice makes perfect and experience is the best teacher. After I finished these whole assignments, I will dedicate my 3 months full of summer for sewing. Hope I can make something better.

Nevertheless, I quite like the result of the bag. For the lining, I used a home decor fabric with plastic lining that I found in the 2nd hand shop. I used scrap fabric for the inside pocket. As for the flap, I used scrap fabric that bought for only 20 cent for 1 pack! I used a scrap fabric from my previous work for the inside flap.

What I like about this bag: this is the first time I ever sew a velcro. Yay XD

So, here it is, my "tsubusa ni koi" bag :)

Just a note

If you somehow stumble to this blog (miraculously!), this blog might be a new one, but believe me, I've been doing crafty stuffs since I was just a kid :) I was crazy about origami and paper craft. I made lots of cute paper stuffs like frame, notebook and bookmark and sold it when I was in high school (and being interviewed by CosmoGirl magazine.

Right now I am more into sewing. I couldn't stop thinking about sewing even though I'm in the middle of doing my 3500 words assignment. My friends often asked me, how could I divide time between studying, practising piano, performing, and sewing? My answer: I don't know. My academic life is my obligation, music is my calling, and craft is how I can compose myself. I just do all of them.

I also have other blogs. Livejournal for my fandom and daily life (five years and going strong), multiply for my other random life, tumblr for nice pictures, and another blogspot blog for my a cappella obsession (which I currently abandoned).

The point is, I'm a very random person. I might be a newbie here, but not.

Vintage look card

I always love vintage look card, and if you're talking about vintage, Tim Holtz is the man. For this card, I did not only use the distress ink but also use the stamp set (I forgot which one). I am not really sure which stamp that I used for the bird, but I think it's one of the cheap Grace Taylor stamp (which I borrowed from my friend).

I used a dark blue linen card that I brought from indonesia. I background stamped the card with Tm Holtz stamp too. I got the purple paper from my friend, not really sure what kind of paper is that. I did opaque stamp with vines stamp in the right side of the purple paper. The rest was just combining random things to make the card looks nice.

Usually I always want a clear and perfect result when I stamp, but to achieve little bit vintage look, it's better to not really have a clean stamp.

Cheers!

I always lost them!

I love mobile phone pouch and I love making them. Unfortunately, I always lose them. I've made more than 4 mobile phone pouches, and all of them were gone somewhere. Unfortunately, I only took the photo of 3 of them. And in memory of my pouch(es), here I put the photos of them.

1. The strawberry pouch.

I crochet this using two different tone of pink and one light green, all of them using the local cotton yarn for less than $1 for a very big ball. Unfortunately I took the photo with my mobile phone, and the quality is not that good.

2. The big yarn pouch

This one was very quick and easy to made, only 2 hours. I used a big acrylic three colour yarn, and if I'm not mistaken, I used the crochet needle size J. I love this, I love the colour, and again, it lost somewhere.....

3. The my first properly done sewing pouch

This is the first time I successfully made a pouch, and a cute one! I sew the ribbon that I bought at Mayestik (for less than $1 per metre. Indonesia is such a heaven for cheap ribbons and fabrics) and tried the embroidery stitch in my sewing machine. The fabric? I use an old pillow case. For the lining, I use a flannel fabric that my friend gave to me and another fabric remnants that bought for $1.99 (don't ask me why Lincraft really love using this price for their remnants).

I'm not planning to make any new mobile phone pouch. I'm just too heartbroken.

Music!

Beside my love and devotion to God Almighty and my parents and family, my next love goes to music. I've been learning piano for years, had my first income from it, met great people through it, and made awesome projects about it.

This is one of my first collaboration with my taiwanese-filipinos friend at uni. Even though his youtube channel only has 2 videos, but it's worth to check it out. We're planning to make more, but now is week 12, and when it's week 12, there're only 2 words spoken around me: assignment and exam.

So here's Hurt by Christina Aguilera, cover by my friend wayne on vocal and me on piano.

I still have 2x3500 words, 1x5000 words, and 1500 words assignments..

.. but I ended up making this.

Based on McCall: Kay Witt M5882 pattern. This time I bought this very lovely cotton print fabric manufactured by Westminster that I bought at HobbySew for $9.95 per metre (it was on sale). I bought only 1 metre (I already spent too much on fabrics!), so I combined it (again) with fabric remnants that I bought for only $1.99 for 1mx50cm.

What makes me happy is that this is the first time I successfully sew the zipper without mistakes! Only one take, and voila, I have zipper on my dress. Practice makes perfect, people :)

So, here is the reason why my assignments are not going anywhere...

I feel like buying more fabrics like this. Should I....?

Do what your grandma told you

And yes, more assignments means more procrastinating time, which means more crafty stuffs! But no, these stuffs are the one that I made when I waited for the result of my scholarship.

I learned how to crochet from my grandmother (grandmothers know everything, believe me). She was more into knitting, but I am more into crocheting.

This is a small tablecloth that I made as my first project after years I didn't do any crochet.
I followed the guide from a Japanese book that I bought years ago also. For a revival crocheter, I thought what I did is not too bad. Unfortunately, I used the wrong yarn size, so the shape is little bit wavy. I used local acrylic three colours thread that I bought for $1.90 per ball.

Happy crocheting!

Let's begin the beguine

This winter break (which goes from June to July), I suddenly had an urge to sew, even though I never properly learned how to sew with machine before. So I browse ebay, amazon, and lincraft, and fell in love with Brother CP7500.

Since the first day the travo arrived (I had to switch from 110v to 220v. THANK GOD I realised this before I turned on the machine), I have been sewing like crazy (while abandoning my assignments, definitely) and this is my second project that I did with my sewing machine (the first one is a failed jeans pouched. Who is the crazy girl who tried to sew zipper in the first time she learned how to sew? Me.)

Lessons learned from this project?

1. Always do your edge, whether you overlock it, pinking it, or sew a zigzag stitch.
I didn't do my edge so after I washed it, the thread is every where ><

2. Always baste before you put the zipper.
Again, WHO'S THE CRAZY GIRL WHO TRIED TO SEW ZIPPER IN THE FIRST DAY SHE LEARNED HOW TO SEW?

3. sew properly your hem

The fabric that I used:
1. used jeans that I got for free for the yoke
2. blue flower fabric that I got in second hand shop for $2 for approximately 1x1 metre.
3. blue lining that I got from Lincraft remnants for $1.99 for approximately 1metrex50cm
4. zipper that I bought in top bargain, 5 for $2
5. skirt pattern that I bought in second hand shop for 50 cents.

Aaannddd here is the result! My first skirt.

The last photo was taken by my housemate's daughter. After I washed it for few times, somehow the fabrics didn't flow as nice as before. Or is it just me who's too lazy to iron the skirt? Dunno.

Cheers!

A greeting from far away!

In the past 3 years, there is always something in my post box every year end. Various cards from friends far away come to fill me with news from them. Of course I send them my cards too, but to make it special, I sent them my hand made cards.

My usual card making tutorial channels are TwoPeasInABucket and StarofMay. As for the cards that I made, I honestly do not remember which line of stamp that I used or the paper that I used. As for the card paper, I used the linen card that I bought in Indonesia for 10 cents per sheet (A4).

Before any of you complaining,
DISCLAIMER

I do not have DSLR thus the quality of the picture here are low.

The first card is "A Greeting from a Far"

Second, Hi :)

I used Thickers foam for the Hi! but as you can see, I positioned the letters wrongly so I had to took it off and repositioned it, which caused the paper a little bit torn off.

And this one is not a year end card but an easter card for my housemate and her daughter <3
I thought this card is quite a failed one. Not as cute as I thought before.

So yeah, that's all folks!

First post

This is the place where I will dump all things that I made. Since I'm such a random person, you will find big raaannngee of stuffs, from crochet to card making, from sewing to song making, from food to youtube music cover. One thing you will not find is my essays and my thesis progress. basically anything academic.

As I mentioned in the title, I procrastinate. Too much. And while I postponed my essays, presentation preparation, or any other type of my assignments to the end of the deadline, I did lots of other things to fill this time slot. You can find me practising piano for an hour, to cut my fabrics in the next hour, to cook in the next next hour. So yeah, I have too many interests, unfortunately, none of them are "that" good.

So if you happened to visit my blog from somewhere, please do not confuse with the randomness of the posts.

Happy reading!
